Public transport to Lymington
Lymington Town railway station is very close to the events start and finish in the town centre.
(Lymington Pier railway station is where the September IoW events start)
There are earlier/ later and more frequent trains on the main line to Brockenhurst, which is about 10km from Lymington.

Camping
We recommend hurstview campsite, which is 3km from the events start and finish
(5km from the ferry terminal). They have always been helpful, often fitting in AUK members at short notice.

Audax UK Events
You are provided with a route sheet to follow (the route is not signed on the road), and a brevet card, which you should get stamped at various Controls (checkpoints) on your way round. There will be opportunities to feed at the Controls, and we will feed you at the end. Use whatever bike suits you. Mudguards are not required.

100km events have a minimum speed of 10kph, which will give you lots of time (all day) to finish.

Longer events are harder. You should be an experienced cyclist with fitness and stamina. There is a minimum speed of 15kph for these events. Don't worry about the maximum speed of 30kph - you won't get near it.

If you have ridden a 'Sportive' event and you want to try something a bit more challenging in terms of distance and self sufficiency, then an AUK event is for you - And the entry fees are much less too!

Prepare your bike carefully for any of these events.

BOARD FERRY 7:05am - FERRY LEAVES 7:15am

Sunday 4th September 2016

160km Information, Route Sheet, Maps and gpx Tracks

Thank you for entering this New Forest event.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT INFORMATION

•    START is at Lymington ferry terminal [GR: 4333 0953] (see map)
The start time of 7:15 a.m. is the time that the ferry departs for the Isle of Wight. You need to have collected your brevet card and boat tickets and be ready to board and stow your bicycle by 7:05 a.m.
(If you all arrive at 7:00 a.m. it will take us more than 5 minutes to process the queue!!)

The 8:05 ferry no longer runs so you really do need to be on the 7:05 a.m. departure.
But
if you are on your way and are late phone us 0754 9643784 and we will remain at the ferry terminal until 7:45 a.m. to give you your brevet card and ticket for the 8:15 a.m. ferry departure

There are toilets within the ferry terminal building.
Coffee and tea are served on the ferry, but on the outward journey other refreshments may be limited. If you plan to have breakfast on the boat out to the Isle of Wight we suggest that you bring it with you.

Car parking at the ferry terminal is charged. A Parking permit is enclosed (see below) for the day for use in NFDC Council Town Hall and Barfields long-stay car parks, (Not Emsworth Road short stay car park). They are near to the event finish control and less than 2km from the ferry terminal (see map).
(Permit is NOT valid at Ferry Terminal).

Luggage may be left at your own risk and it will be transferred to the finish

•    RETURN FERRY from Yarmouth to Lymington times are shown on the route sheet.
There is no requirement for a control stamp at Yarmouth or Lymington,
but many of you will want to use the return boat trip across the Solent for rest and refreshment. Options are:
•    Purchase food in Yarmouth (see map on route sheet for choices)
•    Purchase food on boat - sandwiches will be on sale at this time of day
•    Bring your own packed lunch for maximum self-reliance and flexibility in catching ferry

•    CONTROLS: The Lifeboat View Café at Bembridge (56km) is a cycle friendly café providing the normal range of food required to sustain long distance cyclists. The Tesco Express at Poulner (137km) is open all day selling the usual range of Tesco Express food and drink. Control stickers will be in a jar on the counter at these controls

•    CHECKPOINT and INFO CONTROLS: These are shown on the route sheets

•     FINISH is at the Robert Hole Room, Lymington Community Centre, Cannon Street (see map)
Refreshments (included in entry fee) will be available at the finish.

Your attention is drawn to the following:

•    The road from Alum Bay to the Needles is private (National Trust). This road is used by Coastguard and ranger vehicles. Please give way to these vehicles and do not impede their progress

•    Many of the New Forest roads are unfenced and you will encounter ponies, donkeys, cattle and possibly deer or pigs. All animals should be treated as being unpredictable in their behaviour.

•    There are quite a few cattle-grids. These can be slippery in wet weather.

•    Several fords are crossed. There will probably be water in the fords at Brockenhurst and Moyles Court.

•    Horse riding and carriage driving (Pony and Trap) is an everyday part of New Forest life.                          Please slow down and make your presence known when passing or overtaking (calling out is a good way of attracting attention, because horses are used to the human voice). Ponies and traps are easily spooked with potentially serious consequences for either the horse or the passing cyclist.

•    A short length of the 200km route (The Ancient Highway) is along a gravel road. An alternative option to avoid this section is included on the route sheet. The Ancient Highway is shorter and cycle-able at reduced speed by most bikes, but is NOT recommended for the lightest wheels and skinniest tyres, or for trikes or recumbents.
